Vandoren CM343 Bass Clarinet Mouthpiece - B40

Vandoren CM343 B40 Traditional Bass Clarinet Mouthpiece

For bass clarinetists who want a focused, centered sound with excellent response, the Vandoren B40 is a top choice. Part of Vandoren's Traditional Series, the B40 shares the same tip opening and facing as the B45 bass clarinet mouthpiece but adds a wider tip rail. That small design change gives it a more compact, centered tone that projects well and stays consistent across the instrument's range. It's a great fit for advancing students and experienced players in concert band, orchestra, and chamber settings who want a little more openness without losing control.

Why Bass Clarinetists Choose the B40

The B40 is ideal for players who want a bass clarinet sound that's full but focused, with response that makes it easy to move between registers. Its slightly more open design pairs well with medium-strength reeds, giving you a free-blowing feel while the wider tip rail keeps your tone centered and controlled. If the B44 feels a little too closed for you, the B40 is a natural next step. Pair it with your favorite Vandoren bass clarinet reeds and a quality ligature to complete your setup.
