Made from Vandoren's Black Diamond ebonite with a redesigned interior and exterior, the BD5 produces a dense, beautifully balanced tone where every note keeps its depth without losing clarity. This 13 Series version is designed for A=440 pitch, the tuning standard used by most American bands and orchestras, so it's easier to play in tune with your ensemble. With its moderate tip opening and medium facing, the BD5 is comfortable and controllable, making it an excellent choice for advancing students and professionals in symphonic, chamber, and jazz settings.

Why Clarinetists Choose the Black Diamond BD5

The BD5 is ideal for players who want a darker, warmer sound without giving up focus or projection. Its balanced design keeps every note rich and centered, from the low chalumeau register up through the altissimo, while the medium facing keeps articulation clean and response predictable. Because it's pitched at A=440, it's especially well suited for players in American school, community, and professional ensembles. If you love the classic Vandoren sound but want more depth and color, the Black Diamond BD5 is well worth a try. Pair it with your favorite Vandoren reeds and a quality ligature to complete your setup.
